Human history has been full of people who have changed the fate of humanity through their intellect and wisdom. Sindh has also produced such remarkable personalities. The British colonial era in the history of Sindh is considered significant for the development of language, literature, history, and the social system. The year 1853 witnessed two major events: the creation of the Sindhi alphabet and the birth of Shams-ul-Ulama Mirza Kalich Beg.
Mirza Kalich Beg’s ancestors migrated to Sindh after enduring many hardships. However, with Mirza Kalich Beg\\\\\'s birth, the family\\\\\'s fortunes changed. From his school days, he actively participated in intellectual and academic pursuits. His translated book Maqalat-ul-Hikmat was completed while he was still a student. His early achievements reflected the brilliance that later defined his life.
Throughout his career, Mirza Kalich Beg served as a bright scholar, Deputy Collector in the Revenue Department, responsible father, translator, researcher, historian, poet, novelist, religious scholar, international history writer, scientist, biographer, and philanthropist.
Mirza Kalich Beg was the pioneer of the Sindhi novel and made remarkable contributions to Sindhi literature by writing short stories, dramas, travelogues, biographies, essays, and many other literary works. He composed poetry on educational, religious, romantic, and various other themes, while also translating the works of internationally renowned poets into Sindhi. His writings extended to astronomy, flora, and fauna, reflecting the breadth of his knowledge and interests.
His speed and dedication to writing were extraordinary. Even today, publishing houses and literary institutions have not been able to publish his complete collection of manuscripts. The Mirza Kalich Beg Chair continues to work diligently to preserve and publish his invaluable literary heritage.
Mirza Kalich Beg authored 461 books covering 61 different subjects. He could read, write, and speak several languages, including Sindhi, Urdu, English, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, and Balochi.
In recognition of his outstanding literary and educational services, the British Government conferred upon him the prestigious title "Shams-ul-Ulama" (Sun Among the Learned) in 1924.
Mirza Kalich Beg passed away at the age of 76 on July 3, 1929. He was laid to rest at Syed Buland Shah Graveyard, Tando Thorho, Hyderabad.

ورسي تقريب ۾ شريڪ اديبن ۽ دانشورن مرزا قليچ بيگ صاحب جي علمي، ادبي ۽ تاريخي خدمتن تي ويچار ونڊيا. محترم نصير مرزا چيو ته مرزا قليچ بيگ جي آتم ڪهاڻي هر ڀيري پڙهڻ سان نوان خيال، تاريخي حقيقتون ۽ قيمتي معلومات حاصل ٿيندي آهي.
مرزا صاحب جي پڙپوٽي مرزا قزلباش، مرزا قليچ بيگ جي فارسي ۽ سنڌي شاعري مان چونڊ شعر پيش ڪيا، جڏهن ته فهيم نوناري صاحب پنهنجي خطاب ۾ چيو ته مرزا قليچ بيگ ويهين صديءَ جو هڪ جينيس انسان هو، جنهن علم، ادب ۽ تحقيق جي دنيا ۾ بي مثال خدمتون سرانجام ڏنيون.
مرزا قليچ بيگ چيئر جي ڊائريڪٽر ڊاڪٽر نواب ڪاڪا سڀني آيل مهمانن جا ٿورا مڃيا، چيئر پاران شايع ڪرايل نئين ڪتاب جي پڌرائي ڪئي ۽ وائيس چانسلر پروفيسر ڊاڪٽر فتح محمد مري جي سهڪار سان مستقبل جي علمي ۽ تحقيقي رٿائن بابت پڻ آگاهه ڪيو.
تقريب کي شوڪت چاچڙ، گل شير ڪوريجي، نيشنل بئنڪ جي مئنيجر احسن رضا مرزا، محمد يوسف جويو ۽ ٻين پڻ خطاب ڪيو. جڏهن ته تقريب ۾ حافظ احمد الدين انڍڙ، غلام مرتضيٰ چاچڙ، حسن علي مرزا، مولابخش محبتي ۽ ٻين معزز شخصيتن شرڪت ڪئي.

Board of Governors Approves Major Initiatives to Preserve Mirza Qaleech Beg’s Literary Legacy
The fifth meeting of the Board of Governors of the Mirza Qaleech Beg Chair, University of Sindh, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman Board of Governors Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI), approved a number of landmark initiatives to preserve and promote the literary and intellectual legacy of Shams-ul-Ulama Mirza Qaleech Beg. The Board also sanctioned a budget of Rs. 2 million for the Chair for the financial year 2026–27.
The Board unanimously approved the publication of several important works authored by Mirza Qaleech Beg, including Sao Pan Ya Karo Pano, Changi Khayal Ji Karamat, Shah Ji Risalay Ji Kunji, Latifi Laat, and other scholarly books. These publications aim to preserve rare manuscripts and make them more accessible to researchers, students, and readers.
A major decision of the meeting was the approval to establish a dedicated building for the Mirza Qaleech Beg Chair. The new facility will strengthen research, documentation, publications, seminars, and other literary and academic activities while serving as a permanent center for the study of Mirza Qaleech Beg\'s contributions.
The Board also approved the production of animated and educational videos based on Mirza Qaleech Beg\'s moral poems and stories for children. This initiative is intended to introduce younger generations to the Sindhi language, literature, and ethical values through modern digital and audiovisual platforms.
In addition, the Board endorsed proposals to seek financial support for expanding the Chair\'s activities, strengthen collaboration with national and international academic institutions, and mobilize resources for the publication and wider dissemination of Mirza Qaleech Beg\'s literary works.
Addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI) stated that preserving the scholarly and literary heritage of Mirza Qaleech Beg through contemporary approaches is both an academic responsibility and a cultural necessity. He emphasized that publishing the author\'s rare works, establishing a dedicated research facility, and introducing his writings to children through modern media would ensure that his intellectual legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Director of the Mirza Qaleech Beg Chair Prof. Dr. Nawab Kaka informed the Board that the Chair has been working consistently to collect, compile, and publish Mirza Qaleech Beg\'s scattered literary and scholarly works. He noted that, with the continued support of the Board and the University administration, several innovative academic and digital projects will soon be launched to promote Mirza Qaleech Beg\'s contributions worldwide.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khan Sangi, Dr. Faiza Zahra Mirza, Naseer Mirza, Dr. Adal Soomro, Dr. Sher Mehrani, Dr. Altaf Jokhio, Dr. Haseen Musarat, and Dr. Abdul Majeed Chandio, who unanimously supported the initiatives aimed at strengthening the Chair\'s academic, literary, and research mission.
