About the Center for Rural Development Communication (CRDC)

The Center for Rural Development Communication (CRDC), established in 2002 at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, is Pakistan’s pioneering institute dedicated to advancing the field of Rural Development Communication. The Center was founded with the mission to empower rural communities by addressing their communication and information needs and by enhancing the effectiveness of organizations working for sustainable rural development.

CRDC firmly believes that “No Development Without Communication, No Communication Without Participation.” Guided by this principle, the Center strives to strengthen participatory communication processes that promote inclusion, collaboration, and social transformation.

The core objectives of CRDC include:

  • Conducting research on communication-related issues affecting rural areas and communities.
  • Organizing training programs, workshops, and seminars to build the communication capacities of organizations engaged in rural development.
  • Providing institutional development and consultancy services to assist rural organizations in planning, developing, and implementing effective communication strategies.
  • Designing communication models, tools, and modules that ensure stakeholder participation in sustainable development initiatives.
  • Establishing linkages among government agencies, civil society, policymakers, donors, and program managers to promote coordinated and impactful development communication.
  • Since its establishment, CRDC has undertaken numerous training, academic, and research initiatives in collaboration with international, national, and provincial organizations, as well as NGOs working in the field of rural and development communication.

Currently, the Center offers a BS in Development Communication, a unique undergraduate program that combines theory and practice to prepare students for careers in media, advocacy, and development sectors. Additionally, CRDC is expanding its academic portfolio with two new programs in the pipeline: the Professional Diploma in Health Communication and the Professional Diploma in Environmental Journalism.

Through its academic, research, and outreach activities, CRDC continues to serve as a leading hub for knowledge creation, innovation, and professional development in the field of communication for sustainable rural development.
