It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Urdu, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.
Urdu language and literature represent an important part of the linguistic, literary, and intellectual heritage of Pakistan. The Department of Urdu is committed to the academic study, teaching, research, and promotion of Urdu as the national language of Pakistan.
Our BS Urdu programme provides students with systematic knowledge of Urdu language, linguistics, classical and modern literature, literary criticism, literary genres, writing, research, and relevant contemporary areas. The programme also provides opportunities for practical learning through internship/field work and a capstone project.
We aim to develop students who can read and interpret literary and linguistic texts critically, communicate effectively, conduct academic research, and apply their knowledge in relevant educational and professional settings. The curriculum also introduces students to digital resources, media, and contemporary tools relevant to the study and communication of Urdu.
The Department encourages a culture of academic integrity, intellectual inquiry, creativity, and respect for Urdu’s rich linguistic and literary heritage. We hope that our students will use their education to contribute positively to the teaching, research, preservation, and promotion of Urdu language and literature.
