Department of Social Work

The Department of Social Work was established in 1966 to conduct M.A. Classes. In the initial stage of its establishment part-time faculty from related disciplines and Directorates of Social Welfare and Health Services were engaged. In 1970, one year diploma course in Social Welfare was introduced; in 1974, B.A. (Hons.) Social Work program was introduced with induction of regular faculty. Presently 4-year BS and Master in Social Work programs are being offered. The students are imparted theoretical knowledge as well as practical training. The Department prepares students for career in Social Work are eligible to apply for the post of Case Worker, Community Development Officers, Special and Labour Welfare Officers.
