The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences was established in 1973 as Department of Fresh Water Biology & Fisheries at Allama I.I. Kazi Campus, Jamshoro. Later on the nomenclature of the department was recommended to modify as “Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences”, in 48th of Studies in 2022 and was approved by the 43rd academic council meeting in 2023.
Our department mission is to enhance the quality of education and creating a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes practical skills and knowledge, fostering a learning culture of collaboration and innovation, and investing in experienced faculty members, who can bring real-world insights to the classroom. These strategies align with the needs of 21st century learners.
Fisheries contribute to global food security by providing a significant source of quality aquatic protein for human being. They also support livelihoods and employment for millions of people, including fishermen, fish farmers, processors, and traders.
It contributes the controlled culture of aquatic organisms, including fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants. Whereas, the fish production is declining sharply in the natural resources due to climate change and other factors. Same time this department contributes in finding new ways and methods to increase the fish production.
This department embarks of exploration and innovation in the realm of fisheries and aquatic sciences. Our journey in the watery depths, whether they are oceans, rivers, lakes, or wetlands, is not merely a scientific endeavor; it\'s a commitment to understanding and safeguarding the lifeblood of our planet.
The oceans and freshwater ecosystems are integral to our existence, providing sustenance, climate regulation, and untold mysteries waiting to be unraveled. We have made significant strides in unraveling the complexities of aquatic ecosystems and in shaping policies that protect and sustain them. Our mission to explore, conserve, and utilize aquatic resources responsibly is not without its challenges.
Our researchers continue to push the boundaries of knowledge, and our educators nurture the next generation of aquatic scientists and stewards. Let’s unite to cope with challenges and put our share in human welfare, country development and scientific contribution. Our strength lies in our unity, and together, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome.
In closing, I am filled with optimism about what the future holds for our Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. With your expertise, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the aquatic sciences, we are poised to make a lasting impact on the health and vitality of aquatic ecosystems around the world.
