Organized following Seminars and Programmes as Director, Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

 

1)         International Womens Day on 8th March 1994. Seminar was organized in the auditorium of the Political Science department, University of Sindh. The topic of the seminar was  Status of Women in Todays World . 

2)         Women Awareness Day & Meena Bazar was organized on 23-24 March 1995.  

3)         Polio drops were arranged for the children of Sindh University Colony under the  Mother and Child-Care  Programme of the Alumnae Bahbood-e-Khawateen. 

4)         Free Medical Camp was organized for Family Planning and Basic Health Care at Jamshoro Colony, on 20-2-2000. 

5)         In collaboration with the Institute of Modern Sciences & Arts Hyderabad, organized a Seminar on 4-3-2000.  The topic of the Seminar was  Education Today and  Tomorrow .   

6)         Arranged a Peaceful Walk in collaboration with the Department of Economics, University of Sindh.  

7)         To celebrate the International Womens Day. A Seminar on  Sindhi Women in New Millennium  was organized by the Institute of Women Development Studies on 13-3-2000 at the auditorium of Political Science Department, Arts Faculty Building. 

8)         A Seminar was organized by Institute of Women Development Studies on the topic,  The Role of Women in Islam , on 11-11-2000, at the auditorium of Institute of Sindhology. 

9)         Organized Seminar on  Role of Women in Freedom Movement  on 19-9-2001 at  the Auditorium of Institute of Sindhology.  

10)       In collaboration with the Institute of Sindhology & Women Councilors of the area organized a Meena Bazaar / Jalsa on 1st of November 2001 at the Inst: of Sindhology. Dr. Attiya Inayatullah Federal Minister for Women Development, Social Welfare & Special Education Govt. of Pakistan Islamabad was the chief guest. 

11)       To Celebrate the International Womens Day at the University of Sindh on 16th March 2002 National Seminar on  Problems of Working Women , was organized by Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh. 

12)       Arranged a  Certificate Distribution Ceremony  of various short courses of non formal education launched by Institute of Women Development Studies on 2nd October 2002 at Sindh Development Studies Centre, University of Sindh. 

13)       In collaboration with Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare & Special Education Govt. Pakistan, organized a two days workshop on  Gender & Governance  on 26-27th December 2002 at Hotel Indus Hyderabad. 

14)       Organized a lecture on  Women & Media  to celebrate the  International Womens Day  on 8th March 2003 at Inst. of Sindhology, University of Sindh. 

15)       Organized one day Seminar in collaboration with the Sindh Development Society at the Inst. of Sindhology, University of Sindh on 22nd March 2003. The topic of Seminar was  Sindhi Nari Jagarta . 

16)       Arranged a Mehfil-e-Milad at the premises of IWDS on 17th May 2003.  

17)       Organized two days workshop on  Gender Sensitization  on 3-4 of September 2003 in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare & Special Education Islamabad. 

18)       The Inst. of Women Development Studies organized a Seminar in collaboration with the Institute of Women Studies, Lahore on  Importance of Women Studies & Feminist Historiography  on 9th April 2004  at Inst. of Sindhology, Dr. Uma Chakrvarty highly reputed and eminent feminist historian & Professor Meenu Gaur, A film maker and has studies at Jamia Millia University Dehli, was the guest speakers. 

19)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh organized a Lecture programme on the topic  Gender Awareness  on 11-10-2004 at Inst. of Sindhology, University of Sindh. 

 

The chief guest & the guest speaker on the occasion was Honourable Dr. Saeeda Malik, Minister Women Development, Govt. of Sindh. Prof. Dr. Rafia Ahmed Shaikh presided over the function & Ms. Farzana Saleem, Director; Women Development Govt. of Sindh was the guest of honor. The programme was started due in time with the recitation from Holy Quran followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH). Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah, Director, Inst. of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh presented the welcome address & the achievements of the Institute during last year. 

 

20)      The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh like wise the every year, celebrated the International Womens Day by organizing an Informative Lecture programme on  Gynecological & obstetrical problems of Women , by a very prominent & famous gynecologist Professor Dr. Roshan Ara Kazi on 8th March 2005, at the Inst. of Sindhology, University of Sindh.

 

The main objective of the lecture was to provide adequate information & awareness regarding the health issues of Women. 

21)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, organized a lecture programme on  Progress of Work of Committee of Development of Social Sciences & Humanities (HEC)  on 02-08-2005, Honourable Prof.Dr. Najma Najam, Vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, was the speaker & chief guest on the occasion.

 

Mr. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh presided over the lecture programme. 

 

22)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh in collaboration with the Inst. of Sindhology & Sindh Manik Moti Tanzeem, organized a first ever ladies gathering (Chulh-Te-Kachahri) on Friday 27th January 2006 at the Institute of Sindhology. It was a very colorful programme having all aspects of Sindhi culture.

 

            Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh in collaboration with the Institute of Sindhology organized a programme on  Chul te Kachari , at Institute of Sindhology. Umul-Kalam Prof: Mariam Sultana Noohani and Begum Akhtar Jabeen Siddiqui were chief guests on the occasion. The main objective of the programme was to revive the cultural traditions of Sindh like Rasme Mehandi, Rasme Mayoon and Lori by mother for her loving child. Besides that the welcome dances and folk music was also arranged.

 

23)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh celebrated the Institute of Women Development by organizing a program on  Tribute to Prof: Mariam Sultana Noohani , on 8th March 2006 at Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium, Sindh museum Hyderabad, Department of Culture, Govt: of Sindh collaborated the function by providing the venue. While Mr. Murtaza Khan Jatoi, advisor to Chief Minister for food and Agriculture sponsored the dinner for the program.

 

24)       The Department of Women Development, Govt: of Sindh in collaboration with Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh organized a seminar regarding the  ongoing womens week , which started from 8th March 2006 at Karachi. Dr. Saeeda Malik Minister for Women Development, Govt: of Sindh was the chief guest, Honourable Mr. Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Vice chancellor University of Sindh was the president and Mr. Subhan Memon, Secretary Women Development Govt: of Sindh was guest of honour.

 

 

25)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Organized a one-day Seminar on  Law of Inheritance  on 13th of September 2006. At Senate Hall, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Administration Building, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, in collaboration with Natinal Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Government of Pakistan.

 

26)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, celebrated International Womens Day by Organizing a one day National Workshop on  The Legal Status of Women in Pakistan  on 12th of March, 2007. At Senate Hall, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Administration Building, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC).

 

27)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Organized a one-day Seminar on  Violence Against Women  on 18th of March, 2007, at Auditorium of Department of English, University of Sindh, in collaboration with Sindh Development Society & Department of Sociology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

 

28)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Organized a Four-days Training on  Gender Mainstreaming  on 27-30 of August, 2007. At Center for rural Development & Communication, University of Sindh, in collaboration with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) &  Center for rural Development & Communication, University of Sindh.

 

29)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Organized a Two-days Workshop on  Gender Equality Islam and development in the Pakistan context  on 7-8 o of September, 2007, at Pakistan Study Center, University of Sindh, in collaboration with RAHM CIDA (Lahore Based NGO).

 

30)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Organized a one-day lecture Programme on  Women in Higher Education Management in Pakistan  on 28th January 2008, at Senate Hall, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Administration Building, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.  Prof. Dr. Najma Najam was the Guest Speaker & chief guest, while Honourable Mr. Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Vice chancellor University of Sindh presided over the programme.

 

31)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh like wise the every year, celebrated the International Womens Day by organizing  Display of Skilled items and Handicrafts  prepared by the students of Institute of Women Development Studies, on 6th March 2008, at Allama I.I Kazi Central Library, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Honourable Mr. Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Vice chancellor University of Sindh was the chief guest of the programme.

 

32)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, celebrated International Womens Day by Participating in an Exhibition Organized by The Pakistan Womens Foundation for Peace on 8th March 2008, at Sheraton Hotel Karachi.

 

33)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, celebrated International Womens Day by Organizing an Open House Dialogue on  Mera Bhag Tiyag hi Tiyag  (Abdication- My Destiny)on 15th  March, 2008, at Social Welfare Centre, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, in collaboration with National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW).

 

34)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, organized first International Conference on  Gender Mainstreaming  on 21st  May 2008, at Senate Hall, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Administration Building, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Ms. Sassi Palejo, Provincial Minister for culture & tourism, Government of Sindh, Karachi and Ms. Sultana Siddiqui, Managing Director of Hum TV , were chief guest on the occasion, while Honorable Mr. Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Vice chancellor University of Sindh presided over the programme. A large number of scholars & teachers were present in the programme.

 

35)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, organized the event of certificate distribution ceremony on  9th  February , 2009,  for the candidates who participated in the Pilot Project of Income Generating Motivational Project for Income Generation funded by Planning & Development Department, Govt. of Sindh & implemented by Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, at Sindh University Colony.

 

36)       The Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, organized a one day National Seminar on  Women Development: Role of NGOs , regarding the celebration of International Womens Day, on 7th March 2009, at Senate Hall, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Administration Building, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. 

 

37)       The students and faculty of Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Jamshoro participated in the programme of International Womens day organized by  The Pakistan Womens Foundation for Peace  at Hotel Beach luxury Karachi on 8th March 2009.

8)         Professor Dr Parveen Shah, Director Institute of Women Development Studies presided over a one day seminar on  Gender Mainstreaming for Sindh on Farm Water Management Programme , held on 31-08-2005  at city hotel, by Project Implementation Assistance (PIA) consultants in collaboration with Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA). Seminar was aimed to build awareness among women farmers of Sindh. About hundred women farmers of district Mirpurkhas and Sanghar participated.

 

9)         Professor Dr Parveen Shah participated in workshop organized by parliamentarian Commission on Human Rights, on 21-22 October 2005 at Islamabad.

 

            Except the first event, all the programmes were financed by the inviting Organizations.

 

10)       Professor Dr Parveen Shah attended the three days Workshop on  Feminist Research Methodologies  organized by Institute of Women Studies Lahore on 14th, 15th and 16th of October 2005, at Lahore.

 

11)       Professor Dr. Parveen Shah, Director Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh attend the Two days workshop as Resource person on  Gender Sensitization  December 5-6, 2005 at Hotel Red Carpet Sukkur, organized by Ministry of Women Development Islamabad.

 

12)    Professor Dr Parveen Shah participated as Resource person in two days conference on  Hazrat Khadija-ul-Kubra  organized by Pakistan Federation of Business & Professional Women organization on 14-15th of January 2006 at Karachi. The topic of the article was,  The Status of Women , An over view.

 

13)       Professor Dr Parveen Shah attended a three days International Workshop on Learning Forum organized by Difd (British Counsel) Islamabad on 3rd to 5th May 2006 at Hotel Best Western Islamabad. 

 

14)    Professor Dr Parveen Shah attended an International Conference on  The other self: Conflict Confusion or Compromise  organized by National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Government of Pakistan, on December 8-9, 2006, at Lahore.

 

15)       Professor Dr Parveen Shah attended an International Conference on  Greater Inclusion: possibilities and prospects  organized by Sa-Dhan (The Association of Community Development India) on 17th and 18th of January 2007, at Delhi, India.

 

16)       Professor Dr Parveen Shah Participated as a resource person in National seminar on  Gender Mainstreaming  on 9th February, 2007 at Sheraton Hotel, Karachi. Organized by Department of Women Development, Government of Sindh. Her paper presentation on  Empowerment of Women .

  •  December 10-17, 2009: Director, Area Study Centre, Professor  Dr Parveen Shah, visited Malaysia to attend the Global Higher Education Forum 2009, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and the Universiti Sains, Malaysia collaboration with Centre for Higher Education Research and Study, Ministry of Higher Education, Saudi Arabia, the Association of African collaboration, held on December 13-15, 2009 at Penang, Malaysia.

  •  Monday, August 24, 2009: H.E. Trigustono Supriyanto, the Acting Consul General of Republic of Indonesia along with his diplomatic delegation visited the Area Study Centre, Far East and South East Asia, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

  •  Professor Dr Parveen Shah, Director, Area Study Centre, Far East & South East Asia, University of Sindh, Jamshoro proceeded Islamabad to participate in Baragali seminar, 2009 entitled "The Changing Concept of Discipline of Area Studies: Challenges and Prospects" held on July 18, 2009-July 22, 2009 organized by the Area Study Centre, Russia, China and Central Asia, University of Peshawar, Peshawar, Pakistan. Dr Parveen Shah also attended meeting of the Directors of the Area Study Centres in Pakistan during the fourth session of the seminar.
