The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Prof.Dr.Nazir A.Mughal handed over scholarship nomination letters to 28 faculty members of different teaching institutes and departments in a simple but memorable ceremony held here Saturday.
The occasion was also attended by Pro Vice Chancellors Dr.Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar and Dr.Rafia Ahmed Shaikh. The Deans of the Faculties Dr.Anwar Ali Shah, Dr.Parveen Shah, Dr.Parveen Munshi, Registrar Dr.Muhammad Siddique Kaslhoro, Director Finance Mushtaq Ahmed Memon as well as Directors and Chairpersons various teaching institutes and departments were present. The Vice Chancellor while speaking on this occasion congratulated to the faculty members nominated for Ph.D scholarship from different foreign
Universities and hoped that they would serve the University with successful completion of their higher degree program. He pointed out that nomination under the scholarship is for only Ph.D degree program and candidates of higher score have been nominated for it.
He said that a very transparent system was adopted for the nomination of the faculty members and for the purpose Dean’s committee has made nomination with justice by selecting the candidates.
The Vice Chancellor while highlighting delay for handing over the nomination letters to the faculty members pointed out that due to non availability and financial crunch was main reason behind it. He said that question was arises that how balance amount of Rs.39 Million
available for foreign scholars has been utilized which was not enough and Higher Education Commission was also unable to release more funds. The Vice Chancellor clearly informed the faculty members that in light of demand of faculty members the University has taken decision of awarding of scholarship for only one year as the faculty members have assured that
they will manage stipend for remaining two year. The Vice Chancellor also pointed out that at this stage there is no guarantee from the University of Sindh or the HEC for more funding to nominated faculty but we can only hope for it.
He said that on this stage, the University can not offer any guarantee for funding for further period but only hope of more funds can be offered. The Advisor Planning and Development Muhammad Hussain Shaikh speaking on this occasion highlighted scholarship program funded by Higher Education Commission.
