5th meeting of Vice Chancellor’s Executive Council, presided over by Vice Chancellor.

The Executive Council of University of Sindh has decided to introduce 18 credit hours course work for Ph.D degree program as per criteria approved by Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences from January, 2011. It was decided in 5th meeting of Vice Chancellor’s Executive Council, presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr. Nazir A.Mugahl on Wednesday. Vice Chancellor’s Executive Council constituted by Dr. Nazir A.Mughal which aiming to discuss and implement academic reforms and advise the Vice Chancellor what is the best for the University in terms of academic excellence, student welfare, inter departmental unity, academic freedom, shared governance, tenure and promotion as well as decentralization of the powers in order to groom future academic leaders.
The meeting was attended by Pro Vice Chancellors Dr. Rafias Ahmed Shaikh, Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Deans of the Faculties Dr. Anwar Ali Shah, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Rajput, Dr., Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Dr. Parveen Shah, Dr. Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr. Abdullah Dayo, Director Students Affairs( DSA) Prof. Bashir Ahmed Channer, Provosts Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Gachal, Dr. Qamar Jahan Mirza, Registrar Muhammad Hussain Shaikh, Controller of Examinations Dr. K.D.Pitafi, Consultant to Vice Chancellor on Higher Education Dr. M.Raees Ahmed, Dr. Muhammad Siddiq Kalhoro, Dr. Imdad Ali Ismaili, Director Finance Mushtaq Memon, Dr. Misbah Bibi, Director Admissions Noor Ahmed Memon and others.
The meeting discussed ways and means for introducing of Ph.D course work in different disciplines with 18 credit hours in the light of criteria of HEC and also advised other Faculties i.e Arts, Pharmacy as well as Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration to develop proposals for discussion and approval of the executive council meeting.  The Vice Chancellor on this occasion floated an idea towards uniformity in letterhead of the University of Sindh by mentioning name of University of Sindh at the top and name of any Faculty or department in the second line. The meeting appreciating idea approved it. The meeting also gives serious thought to problems of Sindh University
Teachers Association (SUTA) which includes up-gradation of hard cases of faculty members, raise in telephone bills in light of decisions taken by other Universities and allotment of residential plots in 3rd phase. The Vice Chancellor informed the meeting that problems submitted by the SUTA are reasonable. The meeting while approving it principally decided that same will be discussed in Vice Chancellors Committee forum and will also be placed before the Syndicate meeting for its approval. The Vice Chancellor briefed about the meetings convened between Vice Chancellors of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) and informed that lingering old land dispute between three Universities were resolved amicably. The council meeting lauded efforts of the Vice Chancellor and appreciated resolution of old land dispute which was in pending since a long. The meeting congratulated Prof.Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio Dean Faculty of Arts on receiving of Presidential Award “Tamgha-i-Imtiaz” in the field of
Literature and also appreciated his services.

The Controller of Examinations University of Sindh has extended date up to March,30 of examination forms for LL.B.

The Controller of Examinations University of Sindh has  extended date up to March,30 (without late fee)  for filling of examination forms for LL.B Part-I, Part-II and Part-III( Fresh and Failures)  under annual examination 2009  here on Thursday. The concerned candidates are here by advised to contact with their concerned colleges.

The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh paid a surprise visit to various sections and offices at the administration building.

The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Prof.Dr. Nazir A.Mughal paid a surprise visit to various sections and offices at the administration building of the University on Monday.
The Vice Chancellor during his surprise visit inspected administration as well as teaching sections and also Academic section-I( AC-I). The Vice Chancellor checked the attendance registered of the administration staff and officers and inquired about the absent employees from the sectional heads. He also visited various sections and inspected cleaning -ness in administration building. He directed sectional heads to maintained record of attendance of the employees properly.

Member National Assembly (MNA) Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur visited University of Sindh.

Member National Assembly (MNA) Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur visited University of Sindh and met with Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr. Nazir A.Mughal in his office on Monday. Member National Assembly (MNA), Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur who remained some time with the Vice Chancellor also discussed educational matters as well as on-going academic activities in the University.
The Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr. Nazir A.Mughal on this occasion welcoming the guest briefed him about on-going research and academic activities in the University. The Vice Chancellor also informed the MNA about academic reforms which were discussed in meetings of Vice Chancellor’s Executive Council. He further informed that these academic reforms will be implemented in the University from next semester.  The Vice Chancellor highlighted efforts taken for academic excellence in education and research in the University. Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur appreciated efforts of the Vice Chancellor express hope that name of the University will raise as well as quality of higher education in the University will be improved during Vice Chancellorship of Dr. Mughal.

4th meeting of “Vice Chancellor’s Executive Council”

The University of Sindh will appoint a Dean to look-after and resolve
students problems and constituted a committee to prepare the assignments
of the Dean. This was decided by 4th meeting of “Vice Chancellor’s Executive Council” of the University on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by Vice Chancellor of the University Prof.Dr. Nazir A.Mughal.
The Vice Chancellor Dr. Nazir A. Mughal has constituted a 21-members
Executive Council to discuss academic reforms as introduced by him for
implementation in the University from the next semester. The meeting nominated Prof. Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar as convener of the committee to prepare responsibilities of Dean for students. The meeting has agreed to implement decisions about set up of Departmental Level Committees. The Departmental Level Committees at each department level will comprises faculty members which will resolve the problems of faculty members as well as grievances if any for the betterment of education system. The meeting approved to launch tree plantation campaign at the campus on occasion of Sindh University Founder’s week celebrations and nominated Prof.Dr. Muhammad Tahir Rajput as Convener to supervise the campaign. It was also decided that Heads of the teaching departments, faculty members, students and employees will participate tree plantation campaign. In the light of academic reforms, the meeting has approved the powers delegated to the Deans of the Faculties, Director Finance and Registrar of the University.
On this occasion the Vice Chancellor informed that honourable Governor
Sindh will visit the University in last week of this month and will
inaugurate two new buildings i.e Institute of Biochemistry and Department
of Microbiology.
The Vice Chancellor while speaking on the occasion said that University is
implementing real semester system education while the Deans of the Faculties  are  academic leaders. He said that all reforms as discussed in the meetings would help in improvement of higher education. The Vice Chancellor pointed out that vocational education and special courses including hotel management will be introduced that youth can get
benefit by getting jobs.
The Pro Vice Chancellors Dr. Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Deans of the Faculties, Registrar, Provosts, Director Finance and other members of executive council attended the meeting.

A 6-day in service training workshop for Analytical Chemistry.

A 6-day in service training workshop for Analytical Chemistry teachers
from affiliated degree colleges organized by Dr.M.A.Kazi Institute of
Chemistry University of Sindh in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) concluded on Saturday. The training workshop was attended by 32 analytical chemistry teachers from the University’s affiliated degree Colleges of Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas Regions. Mr. Shabir Ahmed Baig Deputy Director General learning and Innovation Department, Higher Education Commission speaking on this occasion assured the University for funding towards trainings of in service teachers. He pointed out that a joint training will be organized for training of administrative staff of Universities to fill the gap between faculty members and administration. He advised the University to organize more training in different subjects to provide trained teachers to serve in affiliated colleges. Course Coordinator Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Bhatti in his report said that all participants took keen interest in training and also shared useful knowledge in different sessions. Dr.Muhammad Tahir Rajput Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences University of Sindh highlighted importance of in-service trainings. He distributed certificates among participating teachers. Noted scientists Dr. Muhammad Yar Khuhawer, Dr. Abdul Shakoor Qureshi, Professor Rukhsana Mughal and Professor Bhawan Das also expressed their views.

A three day 2nd National Symposium on “New Trends and Advancement in Microbiology”.

A three day 2nd National Symposium on “New Trends and Advancement in Microbiology” organized by the Department of Microbiology University of Sindh in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) concluded here on Saturday. The participating scholars and scientists of different fields of science from Universities and research organizations of the Country have underlined need of advancement of microbiology to meet new trends and collaborative research projects among Universities of the Country. The microbiologists and scholars of different fields including botanists appreciated efforts of the Department of Microbiology University of Sindh for holding national symposium and stressed a need for holding such symposiums, seminars and conferences in frequent manner for development and sharing efforts for research for benefit of the mankind.
The Chief Guest of concluding session Pro Vice Chancellor University of
Sindh Dr. Rafia Ahmed Shaikh lauded interest of participating scholars of
the Universities and variety of papers presented on key aspects of
microbiology. Dr.Shaikh said that new trends in microbiology can help the society come up with a new generation of anti-bionics which can tackle infections of disease more effectively specially those which become drug resistant. She said that microbiology even can help us with more effectively
preventing in dealing with environmental pollution. Modern microbiology while quoting a Chinese scholar, Prof.Shaikh said that microbiology is a combination of many sciences plus it has become an integrative science that simultaneously adopts the techniques from different sectors, disciplines as well as impacts diverse disciplines.
The Pro Vice Chancellor expresses thanks to scholars and participating
scientists who come and attended the symposium. The participating scholars Dr. Abdul Ghanni from University of Sargodha, Dr.Yasmin Kazi Chairperson of microbiology department of Shah Abdul latif University (SALU) Khairpur, Dr. Muhammad Shahid from Agriculture University Faisalabad also share their experiences. They said that the symposium was a very useful and these activities would help in progress in exploring of new trends of the microbiology. They appreciated efforts of the University administration for providing such excellent facilities to the department for research and also holding such activities to boot-up research. Founder Chairman of the department Prof. Bashir Ahmed Channer acknowledged
services of former Vice Chancellor Mr. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui for his help
in providing a beautiful building and scholarships to meritorious four
Microbiology teachers for Ph.D. He said that the Microbiology department is one among the best departments of the University which maintained discipline and having experienced and skilled faculty members.
Prof. Channer also lauded services rendered by the Professors of the
University of Karachi for establishment of the department and support in
research activities. Dean Faculty of Natural Science Dr. Muhammad Tahir Rajput underlined the collective efforts for advancement of microbiology discipline and a joint activity among sciences disciplines. He expressed thanks to Higher Education Commission (HEC) for support   as well as scholars who attended the symposium. Dr. Agha Asad Noor Chairman of the department informed that 91 abstracts were received from various scholars for paper presentation in the symposium.
He said that 37 oral presentations and three scientists Dr. Shakeel from
Karachi University, Dr. Naeem Leghari from LUMHS and Shahana Kazmi from Karachi University delivered plenary lectures on very important subjects.

Land dispute between two sister Universities

Another old land dispute lingering since many years between the University
of Sindh and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) was
amicably resolved on Friday, (March,19,2010)   in a meeting between two
Vice Chancellors of the Universities.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Prof Dr.
Nazir A.Mughal and Vice Chancellor LUMHS Prof.Dr. Noshad Ahmed Shaikh held
at LUMHS Jamshoro and also concerned officials.
The old dispute of possession of land to LUMHS in return of exchange of
compensation between Sindh University and LUMHS were resolved in the
interest of posterity and in the interest of higher education.
The meeting after detailed discussion decided that LUMHS will pay
compensation to University of Sindh of the land which is already in
possession of LUMHS and also payment of additional land to be acquired by
LUMHS on the government revenue rate.
