Noted analyst and expert of world foreign policy Maj General (Retd) Jamshed Ayaz Khan has said that Pakistan is lucky having best friends like China and young generation must respect and make stronger the friendship between Pakistan and China.
He was delivering a lecture on ” The Rise of China and its Regional Security and Strategic Implications” organized by the Area Study Centre Far East and South East Asia University of Sindh on Monday. The scholar said that people of China are very sincere, close friends and they love peoples of Pakistan and said that China’s economic growth can not be ignored.
He said that today in most of countries the products made by China are available and China has developed its market slowly and gradually with continuous efforts. He said that history of power politics in Asia during the past quarter century is a tale of the decline of tow powers i.e Russai- Japan, the gradual rise of China and the resurgence of a fourth USA. He said that China’s rise was an important feature of world politics in the late 20th century and added that China is a very apprehensive about the predominance of U.S power and would prefer a more multipolar world. The expert said that China’s growing confidence in its capability of shaping its environment and that the world is getting less dangerous will have profound implications for China’s diplomatic conduct in the coming years and added that most likely more self confident China will be a responsible with its growing strength. He said that China at present does not pose a global threat and added that despite its growing might, it is by no means world power. He said that China has maintained cordial relationship with all ASEAN Countries and added that China and ASEAN Countries have been able to understand each others. He said that ASEAN Countries and China have greatly minimized the chance of conflicts between them while China’s recent mediating during the squabble between Thailand and Cambodia underscored ASEAN Countries mutual confidence in China.
Dr. Rafia Ahmed Shaikh Pro Vice Chancellor of the University who presided over the occasion said that China throughout most of its history has been peace loving nation which has not exhibited aggressive designs towards other nations. She said that fall of the Soviet Union ushered in a new ear of unipolarism dominated by the United States and added that this has led to an imbalance in world relationships and has placed an unusually heavy burden on the shoulders of the U.S. She said that it is just not possible for any one country, no matter how powerful, to always control and maintain world affairs to its way of thinking and added that thus a vacuum is created which only naturally, needs to be filled up. She said that this new world order is bound to raise suspicions about its motives by other world powers, like U.S, Japan and European Countries. The Director of the Area Study Centre Dr. Parveen Shah speaking on the occasion said that rapid rise of China since the beginning of the 1990 has constituted a most dynamic development in East Asia with for reacting implications for the region and world. She said that strategic concept of the peaceful rise of China is intended to show that the objectives, nature, means and affects and added that China’s peaceful rise theory are all for peaceful purposes and that china will never repeat the mistakes made by Germany and Japan before and between the two world wars, which as rapidly rising powers, challenged the world order and the status quo powers at that time. She said that rise of China as an economic, political and military power will be a force for stability in international system and added that China believes in cooperation, interdependence and respect for world diversity.
