It is essential to describe the importance of Psychology and remove misconceptions about this discipline for those who are interested in Psychology. It is observed that certain sections of the students assume that with the academic background of Psychology, they will not be able to get jobs, and that Psychology is a suitable academic field for women only. This view is absolutely wrong. In a developing country like Pakistan, Psychologists are needed in all fields of life, and it is equally useful both for male as well as female students. The importance of the study of Psychology for us has specially increased because of the fact that as a nation, we are passing through a transitional period. The transition from a predominantly agriculture economy to an industrial one has created conflict between tradition and modern values. Trends towards urbanization and other characteristics of the developing economy have created many problems, which can be solved only through the application of Psychological principles. Psychology as a filed of knowledge has practical utility and can help us in the solution of many problems.
The graduates of this department have proved themselves responsible citizens and by virtue of their knowledge made significant contribution to the solution of different individual and social problems. They are employed in the various prestigious departments of the country. Through our policy of introducing new areas of psychological research to the students we have been able to train them to face many challenges of life.
